This course introduces the relationship between language and culture, using a task-based approach to teaching and learning various aspects of intercultural communication. The two major questions to be addressed in the course include: (1) how interpretations can be related to different cultures, and (2) how cultural identity is constructed and expressed through language. The topics of discussion cover three major areas of communication: (1) law, medicine, and business, (2) gender, ethnicity, and politics, and (3) literature, translation, and second language education. The participants will be able to improve their communication skills and broaden their perspectives as global citizens at the end of this course. |
